About the Role & Team
At IDC, the world's foremost technology market research and advisory firm, the Product Operations function is the engine that keeps IDC's research product portfolio accurate, accessible, and ready to support the teams that depend on it every day. The Director, Product Operations plays a critical enabling role, ensuring that the operational tools, data, and documentation used by Product Management, Marketing, Pricing, Research, and Sales are maintained with precision and care. In this role, you will lead a team and be the go-to resource for keeping IDC's product catalog, pricing book, fact sheets, and operational systems current and reliable. You will serve as the data steward behind core platforms and implement approved changes, maintaining data integrity, and making sure every team that relies on this information can trust what they see. What makes this role uniquely rewarding is the breadth of teams you support and the direct impact your work has on IDC's ability to operate. When product data is accurate, pricing is consistent, research schedules are up to date, and systems reflect the right structure, Product Managers can focus on strategy, sales teams can quote with confidence, and research teams can deliver on their commitments. You make that possible. If you are someone who takes pride in getting the details right, enjoys working across teams, and finds deep satisfaction in being the person everyone can count on for accurate and well-maintained data and tools, this role is a strong fit.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain Product Catalog Data Accuracy. Serve as the data steward for IDC's product catalog, keeping product records, metadata, descriptions, and attributes current and consistent across internal systems. Implement approved product additions, changes, and retirements as directed by Product Management, and ensure ongoing catalog integrity through regular audits and reconciliation.
- Own the Product Management System (PMS). Serve as the business owner for IDC's Product Management System and related systems of record for product data. Partner with IT to configure and maintain these platforms, including defining business requirements and translating operational needs into clear system specifications that are handed off to IT for implementation. This role will serve as the business lead on any new IT systems projects, representing the needs of Product Operations and cross-functional stakeholders throughout evaluation, requirements gathering, and rollout.
- Maintain Product Taxonomy & SKU Structure. Own and maintain the hierarchical framework used to classify IDC's products (category, subcategory, product type, etc.), making decisions on when to add, retire, or restructure as the portfolio evolves. As product and taxonomy changes occur, define and build the corresponding SKU structures needed to support the core pricing and Product Marketing teams, then maintain the pricing data and documentation as remediation and simplification initiatives are rolled out.
- Maintain Research Reporting & Compliance. Operate and maintain the regular reporting ensuring data is current and accessible to research and leadership teams.
- Maintain Product Documentation & Fact Sheets. Keep product fact sheets, focus forms, and product or program documentation accurate and up to date, reflecting the latest approved product details.
- Support Sales Operations. Implement approved product configurations, pricing structures, and bundling rules into the Configure/Price/Quote (CPQ) system following established workflows. Maintain CPQ data integrity through regular audits and reconciliation with the product catalog, and support Sales Operations in resolving configuration issues and processing updates.
- Product and Portfolio Management Process: Process owner for the portfolio management and product development process executed by the product management team.
- Data standards: Set and enforce naming conventions, attribute schemas, unit-of-measure standards, and hierarchy rules—the “constitution” for how a product is described so that data is consistent whether it’s in the PMS, the ERP, the catalog, or a reporting dashboard.
